One of our favorite parks in town, and a hidden oasis in the middle of Jacksonville, the Jacksonville Arboretum & Gardens is a great place to get the kids outside. They have trails to explore and lots of spots to just sit and enjoy the scenery. If you’re looking for a place to hike in Jacksonville or just want to get back with nature, the Arboretum is worth a visit.
Have a Picnic at the Arboretum
The Jacksonville Arboretum & Gardens has lots of picnic tables spread throughout the park. Pack a lunch or snack and enjoy some time sitting in the shade. You can even stop for a break at one of the many benches scatter throughout the Arboretum.
When you arrive at the Jacksonville Arboretum & Gardens, be sure to take a look at the trail maps. There is an easy loop you can do around the pond, but you can also take a trail further, through the wooded acres of the gardens.
Looking for a leisurely stroll, the Arboretum & Gardens has that to offer too. There are plenty of benches throughout the property where kids can rest their legs.
Keep Your Eyes Peeled for Rocks
If you visit the Arboretum, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for painted rocks. Once a favorite spot for Jacksonville Rocks, hiding rocks off the trails is discouraged, but you can still spot some along the main walkway.
The Arboretum & Gardens is one of our favorite Jacksonville parks and is open 7 days a week from 8am to 5pm and is just $3 to visit. We love it so much, it’s even included in our ABCs of Jacksonville coloring book. They have bathrooms located near the parking lot. Be sure to not leave valuables in your vehicle and make sure you lock your car before getting out and exploring.
