Fun at the Jacksonville Fair

The Jacksonville Fair: More Than Just Rides

My family loves going to the Jacksonville Fair! From delicious fair food and adorable animals to dog shows and exciting competitions, there’s something for everyone. While my girls have outgrown the kiddie rides and are still a bit hesitant about the big kid rides, there’s one activity they both absolutely adore: submitting their artwork for contests.

Check out the Exhibits

Tucked away in the exhibit halls—where you can also find those irresistible roasted nuts and homemade fudge—you’ll discover a vibrant display of art created by locals of all ages. The contests feature a wide range of categories, including photography, arts and crafts, mixed media, ceramics, food preservation, weaving, needlecrafts, and so much more! Even if you don’t participate in the contests, take a break from the Florida heat and stroll through the exhibit hall to see all the amazing local talent on display.

The best part about the fair contests? Anyone can submit their art, as long as they follow the specific rules for each category. Be sure to check the guidelines for drop-off and pick-up dates, and get ready to showcase your creativity at the fair. While most contests offer a nominal cash prize, there are a few like the STEM contest, the trash art and mixed media competitions that offer a hefty cash prize to the winner.

Have I mentioned the culinary contests? While my family hasn’t participated in these delicious competitions yet, they sure look like a blast—and oh, so yummy. There are exciting contests for baking your very best cake or pie and decorated cupcakes contest that is open to both kids and adults. Watching the creativity and skill that goes into these baked goods is truly inspiring.

My daughter is a proud member of Duval 4-H, and she absolutely loves competing at 4-H Day at the fair. This exciting all day event features a variety of competitions, including livestock and poultry judging, horticulture, consumer choices, and so much more, all taking place on a vibrant Saturday at the fair. It’s not only a great experience for the participants, but it’s also a lot of fun to watch! The energy in the air is infectious as kids showcase their hard work and dedication. The 4-Hers definitely put in some study time before these contests.
