Nestled in the heart of serene Atlantic Beach, Jack Russell Park is a haven for family fun and one of our favorite parks in Jacksonville. Between the 12 acres of playgrounds, pavilions, skate ramps, courts, and fields, the multi-use park is host to several sports leagues and events throughout the year, guaranteeing fun for all ages and interests. With all the activity comes bathrooms and even a concession stand open on weekends when sports are in session. Another pro for this park is that there is plenty of shade under the pines; keep your eye out for the beaches favorite colorful tree creatures by Scotie Cousin. Visit the park behind City Hall and don’t be too concerned with parking, as there is a large lot.
Playgrounds at Jack Russell Park
With two playgrounds adjacent to the baseball fields, this park has slides, swings, and more for every age. The proximity to the fields makes for a nice way to entertain families of multiples when it’s game time for the siblings. Though they are not next to each other, both playgrounds are located conveniently next to the bathrooms, water stations, and pavilion. Adding to the fun are old truck tires giving kids the chance to hop from one to the other, showing off their parkour prowess. The playgrounds are mulched so closed toed shoes are encouraged.
Sports Leagues
Atlantic Beach Athletic Association: The ABAA youth baseball program calls Jack Russell Park home. With teams for kids ranging 3 – 12 years old, ABBA has casual recreational and competitive travel teams, offering a range of programs for all skills and desires.
Soccer Shots: The national league offers soccer programs throughout the Beaches community, including Jack Russell Park. Soccer Shots has programs starting at 2 years old, giving toddler parents an opportunity for athletic enrichment before they’re old enough for the little big leagues.
Jax Fray Soccer: For parents who are a kid at heart, the park hosts an adult, co-ed soccer program. Jax Fray sports are a great way for parents to maintain their passions through play, or simply meet other adults looking to have fun on the fields.
Events
Atlantic Beach Farmers Market: Hosted every Sunday, this farmers market offers more than local favorite fruits and veggies. You’ll also find live music, art, jewelry, and a range of food trucks brought to you by over 50 local vendors.
Family Fun Day and Camp Out Under The Stars: This annual event has free activities lasting all day and night. Stop by during the day for bounce houses, a petting zoo, food trucks, and face painting. As the sun sets, stay for a comedy show, movie showing, and camping. Be sure to reserve your camp spot if you are staying overnight!
Host Your Own Event: You can select from a range of pavilions to reserve for your own event. You can even reserve a bounce house with a pavilion rental. The park makes for a great party of any kind with access to bathrooms and ample parking.

Callie is a Northern Virginia native, Sunshine Park regular, mom of a toddler and four-legged pre-teen, and golf wife to her husband who is the house favorite. They moved to Jacksonville from the DC area in December 2018 and trading the beltway for the beaches was the best decision of their dog’s life. She spends weekdays working in marketing and weekends working as the activity planner in search of the best nap-inducing events. This typically consists of beach in the morning, soccer and splash pad in the second morning, pool after lunch, Target, and golf carting to get Mayday in the evenings. During the moments to herself she’s listening to podcasts, watching Bravo, laughing at Tik Toks, or adding to cart. She prefers her Roundbird iced and my TacoLu “dilla” style. And if you ever want to discuss niche 90s and 2000s references or anything pop culture related, she’s your Jacksonville Beach Mom. Follow Callie for a mix of all the above!
