Ravine Gardens State Park is just a short hour drive from Jacksonville and makes a great day trip with kids. This park has lots to do and great trails to explore. Probably our favorite part about this Florida State Park is the wooden suspension bridges you get to hike over. Ravine Gardens is high on our list of a favorite winter day trip from Jacksonville because that’s when the azaleas are in bloom, and the colorful addition to the park is stunning. And it easily tops the list of one of our favorite parks in Northeast Florida because of all the great family friendly activities.
Ravine Gardens State Park is located at 1600 Twigg Street, Palatka FL 32177. It’s open 8am to sundown, 365 days a year. The cost to enter is just $5 per car. It’s just an hour drive from Jacksonville and makes it easy to go down and back in a day. Pack a Lunch for Your Visit
Ravine Gardens has tons of picnic tables and several areas where you can enjoy lunch or a snack along the trails. There are no concessions inside the park so you’ll have to bring all your food in with you. In addition to lunch or snacks, be sure to pack plenty of water for your hike. If you’re visiting in the summer it can be hot and buggy so bug spray is also recommended.
Don’t Miss the Suspension Bridges
One of the highlights of hiking the trails at Ravine Gardens State Park is the suspension bridges. There are two bridges that stretch over large ravines. For Florida kids, who aren’t used to this type of terrain, it can be a real treat. The best time to visit Ravine Gardens is between February and March when the azaleas are in bloom. If you’re visiting with kids, don’t forget to ask about the Florida State Park Junior Ranger Program!
