San Sebastian is the second largest winery in Florida and is located right in St. Augustine. It’s open daily for tours and a free wine tasting. Housed in a historic building built by Henry Flagler in 1923, this winery is a must visit on your next day trip to St. Augustine.
San Sebastian Winery offers Free Tours
Your visit to the winery begins with a tour of the facility and information about their history. They’ll also teach you a little about the grapes that are used to make the wine. Recently, the winery has had to change the format of their tours, making most of it self guided. But you can still learn a lot about the wine making process and it’s still completely free.
San Sebastian Winery offers Free Tastings
San Sebastian produces a large variety of wines and if you take the tour you also get to do a complimentary tasting. Even with new social distancing regulations, the complimentary tasting is still offered at the winery.
Starting with their dry wines, you’ll get to sample several (but not all) of the wines San Sebastian produces. Be sure to make notes of the ones you like because all of them are for sale in their gift shop.
As you work your way through the sweet wines and taste the port and sherry produced by San Sebastian you’ll learn more about the grapes used to produce the different wines and why certain wines are sweeter than others.
The tour and tasting at San Sebastian Winery not only introduces you to the wide variety of different wines produced by San Sebastian, it also teaches you a little about the history of the winery and a lot about how their wines are made.
San Sebastian Winery tours and tasting are available seven days a week and are completely free. The tour and tasting lasts approximately 45 minutes and they run continuously throughout the day. If you enjoyed the San Sebastian Winery, be sure to check out St. Augustine Distillery, located right down the road. They also offer a free tour and tasting of their locally made spirits.
